History of the VFW Auxiliary:

Established in 1914. The members of the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign was established by the VFW’s national organization to serve the veterans of this country and our communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every man and woman who has served in uniform. The members of the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars live by the motto, “Honor the dead by helping the living”.   

In 1971 The Members of Post 6274 at a regular meeting, by a two-third vote, approved the formation of a  Auxiliary. The Auxiliary Charter was signed on February 22, 1972.

The members work hand in hand with our parent organization – the VFW – on Americanism projects, support of cancer research, Suicide Prevention and Awareness, the VFW National Home for Children located in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Veterans and Family Support, various scholarships grants, legislation, hospital program as well as youth activities.

Auxiliary VFW Objective:

The objective of the Auxiliary VFW shall be fraternal, patriotic, historical and educational; to assist the Posts and members thereof of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and its own members whenever possible; to maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America and fidelity to its Constitution and Laws; to foster true patriotism; to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom and equal rights and justice to all men and women; and to preserve and defend the United states of America from her enemies whomsoever.

Membership Requirements:

Auxiliary members must meet one or more of the following requirements for eligibility:

First the individual applying must have or had a family member who served or presently serving in the United States overseas in:
World War I; World War II; Occupation Service; Korean Service 1950-1954; Korea Duty 1955-Present; Vietnam Service; Expeditionary Operations; Hostile Fire/Imminent Danger Pay; Desert Shield/Storm; Bosnia/Kosovo; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary; Afghanistan 2001-present; Iraq 2003-2014; SSBN Deterrent Patrol  Insignia.
Foster and stepmothers (who have performed the duties of parent)
Foster and stepdaughters (who attained the status prior to the age of sixteen and for whom the duties of parent were performed)
Half sisters
Foster and stepsisters (who attained that status prior to age sixteen)

Of persons who were or are eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Members must be citizens of the United States and not less than sixteen years old. Women veterans eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States shall also be eligible for dual membership in the  Auxiliary.

Auxiliary VFW National Magazine:

Every member receives six issues a year of the Auxiliary VFW Magazine. The Magazine covers successful activities conducted by other auxiliaries, the latest information on the national programs, the national President’s travels to every Department, the newest member benefits, the candidates running for National Guard and much more.

Membership Dues:

Annual Membership Dues: You can choose to be an annual member by paying $40 each year. 

Lifetime Membership Dues: You can become a VFW Auxiliary Life Time Member by making a one-time payment as shown below. Lifetime dues for Auxiliary Members are age factored:

Payment Method: Lifetime Membership Dues are payable to our Post 6274 Auxiliary Treasurer. Payment methods: Check, Visa, Mastercard or Discover. Membership cards will be mailed to our Auxiliary’s Treasurer for distribution to members who elect to participate in the Life Membership Dues option.

Meeting Dates:

The VFW Post 6274 Auxiliary Meetings are the Third Monday of each month at the Hall at 7PM.

 Auxiliary Post 6274 Programs

  • Membership: Collects and transmit continuous new and reinstated dues annually.
  • Historian: Keeps a book with the election and installation of Officers for Post 6274
  • Hospital: Visit and make lap robes for our hospitalized veterans.
  • Legistlative: Keep in contact with local Legistlators
  • Veterans and Family Support: Hosts Buddy Poppy Drives. Also, adopt a Unit and send supplies as needed.
  • Scholarship: Contact local schools and home schooled students to participate in the essay contest for the year theme Voice of democracy.
  • Youth Activities: Annual Christmas Party, Lunch with the Easter Bunny and the  Children’s Carnival.
